Episode 112: The Sacrament of Holy Orders

[This is our first episode with closed captioning. If you use it, please let us know what you think!]

Many of us have never seen a Mass of Ordination or the Sacrament of Holy Orders administered. Those of us who have may not understand exactly what is going on. Having been involved in several, Beth and Kristofer go into full detail about: What happens at the Mass and Rite; What this type of Sacrament is called; What graces the men who receive the Sacrament are given; And they help us better appreciate the men who receive it. Of course, there’s that question we all have…

What are the Holy Orders? Who can be members of these orders? What are the criteria? They answer these questions and more. They also cover the form, accidents, and effects.

But why is there a Sacrament for the priesthood? Beth and Kristofer discuss what is important about this Sacrament that separates this priesthood from the priesthood we all receive at Baptism.

Bishops, Deacons, and Priests have hosts of duties (no pun intended!). Beth and Kristofer cover them all, which will help you understand the differences between these duties and who has authority to perform each of them; and they even give us some hints for how to tell a priest from a deacon!

The Bishops, Deacons, and Priests also have their own vestments, hats, and even staffs that symbolize different things. Kristofer and Beth explain why these symbols are important, and are important to understand the roles of these three Holy Orders!
