On The Road To Perfection
Episode 66: Why Does The Catholic Church Not Believe In Cremation

Let’s instead answer the question of why the Catholic Church discourages cremation. The title above is what most people type into a search engine, but it’s a bit convoluted. First answer: The Catholic Church does not forbid cremation.

That may be your last question, too, but you should now some of the nuances of that, because the Church doesn’t say one should go willy-nilly with cremation! There are sinful ways to go about it… So if the question really is “why does the Catholic Church not believe in cremation?”, you should know that the question is based on a false premise, and the Catholic Church discourages cremation but does not forbid it. And because of the Church’s teaching,we can be secure in the knowledge that God does not, either!
